NBA game or when child’s dreams come true

Every kid who enjoys playing basketball, dreams of becoming one of the greatest players of all time. Everyone wants to be like Jordan, Bryant or LeBron, but only a handful succeeded in stepping on the court of the famous halls and playing in the elite NBA league with the greatest stars of the basketball world. Unfortunately, we did not have this chance and happiness, but we can relive our children’s dreams by watching live matches. Better that than nothing 😁

We watched our first NBA game at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where home team Nets played with their neighbors from Boston, with legendary Celtics. A modern, only a few year-old arena, which can accommodate over 18.000 spectators, was filled to the last seat. One of the important information before watching the NBA spectacle is definitely that it is forbidden to bring any camera or DSLR to the arenas, but those rules won’t stop Saša, so she, with a great deal of ingenuity, despite the strict rules brought all of our photo equipment inside. Believe us, without all of these photos, this post would be very boring.

New Year’s Eve in London

We spend this New Year’s Eve in little bit different way. Somewhere on the island, in a crowd of couple thousand of people, who for about 15 minutes admired thousands of rockets that rose to the with the rhythms of popular music and continuously enlightened the sky over the city. We have started a new year with a couple day trip to London and have watched one of the finest, longest and most expensive fireworks in the world. If we explain the word “expensive”… with every single shot of the rocket, they spend our annually salaries 😄

In search of the US president, Washington

We cannot really get past the capital cities on our travels, so we also succumbed to tradition in United States. We went to Washington, and of course took the opportunity to knock on front doors of the White House to greet president and the first lady. We probably do not need to emphasise that she is a Slovenian 😁

Washington is located about four hours by bus from New York. The return ticket, for which we subtracted $ 40 per person, we booked at company called Megabus. The carrier surprised us with comfortable two-story vehicle, which even has WC and Wi-Fi.

Concrete jungle beyond the Atlantic, New York

City of all cities, New York! We finally visited gigantic metropolis on the east coast of the United States… We landed at Newark Airport, in neighboring New Jersey. If you are skilled in the use of public transport, you need to take AirTrain to the Manhattan, which leads straight to Penn Station. From here, you can take metro which drive to every part of the city. Traveling with subway is definitely the fastest and by far most convenient mode of transport. One-way ticket costs $ 2,75, but if you are staying here for couple of days, or for a week as we did, we recommend the purchase of an unlimited weekly ticket for $ 33.

To America, second time this year? Why not! At the beginning of the year, we were on divine Cuba, but this time we are returning across the Atlantic slightly more north, to the United States, to a city that never sleeps. Town’s skyscrapers are a perfect scene for thousands of films and TV series… you’ve all certainly heard about four friends in the cult series Sex in the City, or laughing to the tears when you watch lost but ingenious boy in the comedy Home alone. Yeah, we will spend a week in the city of all cities, New York!

Cuban Cuisine

Although Cuba in not exactly the destination for gourmet enthusiasts, who are impressed by the exceptionally high class culinary and Michelin stars. However, chefs on Cuba, despite the country’s closure, provide the most interesting dishes from the accessible ingredients and with a touch of innovation. Combinations of foods may not really be what we are used to, but believe us; you will lick your fingers after each meal.

Well, if we exclude resorts in Varadero, then you can forget the dishes from other parts of the world while you traveling around the Cuba. So do not waste your precious time looking for Asian specialities, modern French cuisine or fine Italian pasta. Otherwise, if we are sincere… why would you eat frogs’ legs, pasta with truffles when you can enjoy the freshly caught seafood, lobsters, beef, that literally melt in your mouth and sweet fruits with coconut, papaya and pineapple at the forefront? The offer is endless, so get out of your comfort zone and try all of those real traditional Cuban specialties. You will not be sorry!

Hurray for us! It’ not even a month since we came back from our summer vacation and we are already on the road once again. For all of you who have not liked our Facebook page yet, let we just say that in the coming days we will be discovering one of the more interesting European capitals. After a long time, we are returning to Germany, more precisely in Berlin.

Many people say that Berlin is nothing special, just a city as a city – but if you encounter such a cheap air tickets as we did (30,00€ for a return ticket per person, Treviso → Berlin, Ryanair) – then there is really no reason to delay with a visit to the German capital. We will give Berlin an opportunity.

Are you among those who still do not know where to spend the holidays and looking for ultra last minute opportunities?

Have you thought about southern neighbor of Slovenia? No doubt. We think that 80 % Slovenians at the thought of holidays and the sea, still have in mind the country, which can boasts with fabulous 5.835 kilometers of coastlines and 67 inhabited islands. Mainly elderly population do not easily change their holiday destinations – aircrafts for some still represent a problem and sound of Balkan languages will always make them feel like home.

No pigeon, no Venice

Why should we spent a free sunny day at home, when we can go on a short trip across the border. This time we return to the place where we realized that the travels will definitely be a part of our lives. At our first trip we went to Venice, that time with a travel agency, where time is very limited and you only run wild across the city or blankly follow guide who gives you piles of data, which are usually not that important and interesting. It is true that you see the whole town within three hours, but you do not experience those little things that make Venice, as well as any other place, something special.

Canceled flight, extended vacation and gorgeous resort in Varadero

We saved best for last, it was so good, that we stayed two extra days, but about this later 😋 22 kilometers of beautiful sandy beach, which stretches across the entire length of the peninsula on the north side of the county, is the main reason for visiting Varadero or so-called city of colored bracelets. Forget about unique artistic jewelry, those are plastic bracelets worn by all-inclusive guest from various hotels and resorts.

The city is created for tourists, bunch of huge hotels, stalls with souvenirs on every step and roads full of taxis. The prices here are significantly higher than on the rest of the island, which is reflected not only in restaurants and bars but also on stalls. You have to go deep in your pockets if you want to indulge yourself in one of those hotels. You will have to spend more than 100 € per night, which is of course a lot more than you would paid for a night in casa.
